SCHOOL PROFILE
The SEED School of Maryland is a statewide, public, college-preparatory boarding school that opened in August 2008.The School educates and boards 400 students in grades six through twelve. The SEED School is an extraordinary educational opportunity for students across the state to receive a tuition-free, college-preparatory, boarding education.
The SEED School of Maryland combines a rigorous and engaging academic curriculum with life skills and enrichment activities to provide students with a thoughtfully balanced learning and living experience. Students and their families commit to a seven-year educational program that offers small class sizes, high quality teaching and learning experiences, mentoring, community service, and extracurricular activities such as sports and arts. The SEED School is centered around its character values: compassion, self-discipline, integrity, respect for oneself and others, responsibility, honesty, and self-determination. The SEED School staff are in partnership with parents, families, and communities to guide and support student success. The School follows a typical academic school year calendar.
SUMMARY
Under the leadership of The Director of Academics, the Librarian provides students and teachers intellectual and physical access to materials in appropriate formats (books, periodicals, videos, DVDs, filmstrips, computer software, etc.); provides instructions to foster competence and stimulate interest in reading, viewing, and using information and ideas; and works with other educators to design learning strategies to meet the needs of students. The Librarian serves as teacher, materials expert, and
curriculum adviser to ensure that the library/media center is involved in instructional programs for the school.

The school library media specialist (SLMS) empowers students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. The SLMS supports students’ success by guiding them. And also works with teachers and other educators to build and strengthen connections between student information and research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources. The SLMS demonstrates his or her role as an essential and equal partner in the instructional process by:
Program Administrator
As program administrator, the school library media specialist (SLMS) works collaboratively with members of the learning community to define the policies of the library media program and to guide and direct all activities related to it. The SLMS maximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of the school library media program by providing a reliable programming system.
T he school library media specialist (SLMS) maintains current and in-depth knowledge of the research and best practices in all aspects of information literacy, technology in the classroom and 21st century technology skills for the students and families.

WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to a noise level in the work
environment that is usually moderate. The work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as classrooms, dorms, offices, meeting and training
