Energy Infrastructure Civil Engineer

About the Role:
A leading multidisciplinary firm is seeking a Civil Engineer to join its Renewable Energy group, supporting solar, battery energy storage, and select wind development projects. This hybrid role involves full-cycle site development work, from feasibility to construction, with a strong emphasis on private-sector energy development. The ideal candidate will bring experience with site development, permitting, and detailed design for utility-scale renewable energy projects.
Since 2020, the team has completed over 80 renewable energy projects totaling more than 350 MW, with 400,000 solar modules across 1,500+ acres—and is consistently adding new projects monthly.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct site visits for project feasibility evaluations
Assist with preliminary site layout planning and optimization
Prepare comprehensive civil/site designs including site plans, grading, stormwater management, and construction documentation
Draft engineering drawings and documents for permitting and construction
Collaborate with stakeholders including engineers, contractors, permitting authorities, and municipal planners
Support local permitting, SEQR (State Environmental Quality Review), zoning, and stormwater compliance
Ensure designs are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to client expectations
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
8+ years of engineering experience, preferably in civil/site design for renewable energy projects
Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
Strong experience with site development and stormwater design
Familiarity with New York State permitting and SEQR processes
EIT or PE licensure (preferred)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within project teams
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
At least 5 years of experience in site development and Civil 3D within New York’s solar or renewable energy sector
A track record of completing full lifecycle solar or BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects—from feasibility through construction oversight
Knowledge of grading design, drainage systems, stormwater modeling, and related environmental compliance
Experience attending town meetings and engaging in zoning and permitting discussions
A detail-oriented mindset with strong project and time management skills
